Efektivitas Program Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS) dalam Menumbuhkan Minat Baca Siswa SDN 17 Kayuagung

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) Program in fostering reading interest among sixth-grade students at SDN 17 Kayuagung. The background of this study is based on the importance of literacy habituation from the elementary school level as an effort to develop reading habits, broaden insights, and improve the quality of learning. The study uses a quantitative approach with the research subjects being all sixth-grade students. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires, observations, and documentation, while data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics to examine the relationship between the implementation of GLS and students' reading interest. The results of the study show that the average score of the School Literacy Movement Program variable is 39.84 with a good category. Meanwhile, the average score of students' reading interest is 40.97 with a high category. Thus, its implementation has taken place in the form of reading activities before learning, the use of reading corners, and the involvement of teachers in habituating literacy activities. The program has had a positive impact on increasing students' interest in reading, which is evident from the growing interest of students in reading materials, increased reading frequency, as well as the emergence of the habit of using leisure time for reading activities. Therefore, the GLS Program can be considered effective in supporting the reading interest of elementary school students, particularly in grade VI students.
